Since 1995, Liz Nickrenz and her trusty acoustic guitar have been performing her songs of frustration, neurosis and romance, in scattered train-stations and coffee shops from Philadelphia to Boston. In 1997, she and two other guitarists, Ted Melillo and Joe Scheier-Dolberg formed the acoustic trio Callisto. Callisto combined swirling folksy melodies with lyrics covering every subject from James Joyce to why chicks dig gay guys. Unfortunately, at the end of the summer Ted moved to Norway to teach rock-climbing to high-school Norweigians, and the group disbanded.
Despite her folk roots, however, Liz's musical tastes have always tended towards a more electronic sound. In 1998, she and electro-production wonderboy Bjorn Dittmer-Roche formed Pseudo-Merlot, an occasionally goth-flavoured electro-trip-pop concoction which is still brewing to this day. Bjorn also produced Liz's full-length solo CD, Unspeakable Crushes which was released in the summer of 1999. Over the next year, Liz worked with Rhode Island goth/darkwave/synthpop band Platform One, and can be heard performing backup vocals and keyboards on their EP 'Confessions of the Sorrow Tree'.
Although she still performs solo acoustic shows on occasion, Liz is also now the frontswoman for Boston-area goth band Scissorkiss She joined Scissorkiss, replacing former lead singer Arian Allen, at the beginning of 2001.
